Whether your child is just getting started or continuing with lessons, they’ll work with you to find the right fit based on your child’s interests and instrument preferences. This support helps ensure a smooth start to the year and builds a strong foundation for long-term musical growth and enjoyment.

🌱🌍 Impact Explorers: A Monthly Service-Learning Journey (Fridays)

*Will launch in September*

Students in grades 6–8 come together after school for hands‑on, mission‑driven projects that connect, empower, and uplift our local community. Each month, participants will explore a new theme, from environmental care to social justice, working in teams to design, execute, and reflect on a meaningful service activity. By building empathy, leadership, and civic awareness, this after‑school program extends SFS’s mission of equity, sustainability, and humanitarian engagement into real-world action.

FAQs

I didn’t sign up, but my child needs aftercare. Are daily drop-ins permitted?
Yes! Drop-ins are welcome on a space-available basis. You must register by 10:00 am the day of care and complete payment in the registration portal—this helps us ensure proper staffing and snack for everyone.

Want to be prepared? You can purchase a 5-pack of drop-ins in advance. If registering after lunch for same-day care, please also email [email protected] to give us a heads-up.

What does my child do in Extended Day on a regular day (no specialty class)?
After snack at 3:30 and some outdoor time, students can choose from activities like art, building, games, movement, and daily craft projects. Clubs and structured activities (such as Craft Club, Pokémon Club, and Basketball Club) run from 3:45–4:45 pm. Quiet reading and homework support are also available. Our program is play-based and student-choice centered, with occasional themed days around holidays or cultural celebrations.

Can my middle school student be in Extended Day?
Yes! We have specialty classes, private music lessons, and the MS CONNECT program for grades 6–8. MS CONNECT blends off-campus volunteering with on-campus leadership opportunities, giving students the chance to lead activities for younger students, support homework, and build cross-grade connections.

We also offer the CIT (Counselor-in-Training) program, where middle schoolers help run clubs like Pokémon, Basketball, and Crafts. It’s a great way to gain leadership skills while having fun after school.

Is there a study hall in Extended Day?
Yes! Study Hall is available for students in grades 4–8, Monday–Thursday from 3:45–5:00 pm. It offers a quiet, structured space for homework, reading, or studying, with the same instructor each day for consistency. Students grab a snack at 3:30 before heading to Study Hall. Care is included until 6:00 pm for those who need it. There is no Study Hall on Fridays.

Will there be refunds?
Unfortunately, we do not offer refunds for Extended Day once enrolled. Please consider your schedule carefully before signing up. We are not able to give refunds if you later sign up for an additional specialty class or if your child is absent due to illness.

What happens if my child is signed up for Extended Day but goes home sick?
If your student is sick, we cannot offer refunds or credits. We staff our programs based on enrollment, so all absences, including illness, are considered part of the regular attendance risk.

What happens if I leave my child in Extended Day but haven’t prepaid?
If your child attends Extended Day without being pre-registered, your account will be automatically billed for drop-in care (morning or afternoon). To avoid unexpected charges, please register in advance.

Can you register my child for me?
Unfortunately, no. Only parenting adults may register their children for Extended Day or specialty classes. Even with your consent, staff cannot complete this process on your behalf.

Will there be music classes?
Yes! Private music lessons for flute, clarinet, saxophone, violin, and cello are available. Lessons culminate in recitals in December and May.

What happens when my child’s specialty class ends?
Students in specialty classes should be picked up right when class ends unless they are enrolled in aftercare. Wrap-around care can be added at registration for an additional fee, allowing pickup until 6:00 pm.

Can my student use their cellphone in Extended Day?
Just like during the school day, student phones are stored at the front desk during Extended Day. If they need to reach you, staff will help them make a call.

When does registration for specialty classes open?
Specialty class registration opens August 11 along with regular Extended Day packages.
