Cooking Camp is a hands-on culinary experience designed to build confidence, creativity, and essential life skills through food. Hosted in The San Francisco School kitchen and guided by Head Chef Christopher Akin, this one-week camp invites students to explore cooking in a fun, supportive environment.
Each day, campers prepare a new menu while learning foundational kitchen skills such as safe knife use, measuring, mixing, and basic cooking methods. Through hands-on practice, students explore new ingredients, taste global flavors, and learn the language and routines chefs use to bring dishes together.
Rather than focusing only on recipes, the camp emphasizes planning, organization, and attention to detail. Campers practice following sequences, problem-solving when things don’t go as planned, and working collaboratively in a shared kitchen space.
By the end of the week, students leave with practical cooking skills, increased independence, and a deeper appreciation for food preparation. Cooking Camp is ideal for curious students who enjoy hands-on learning and are excited to bring new recipes and skills home to share with their families.
