After School Middle School Connect Program + Before Care options

Introducing MS CONNECT! SFS’s unique middle school extended day program. Throughout the school year, in the extended day program, middle school students will form connections with the community on and off campus, as they work towards fulfilling their humanitarian promise. Our unique after school schedule allows MS students to not only cultivate academic skills with homework support, but it allows them to volunteer their time, energy, and skills to the Portola, SFS, and even farther afield. Students will have weekly opportunities to participate in clean-up efforts in the Portola, assist caring for our youngest learners on campus, engage in some unique volunteer opportunities on campus that reach across the US well beyond our school walls, and more.

At the center of this program are 10 community leader skills badges. These badges, displayed above, will be earned by meeting predetermined criteria for each skill. Students will exercise their own agency to decide when they want to have their badge evaluation meeting with the extended day team to demonstrate they have met the criteria. Students do not need to complete this badging process in one year. These are skills that grow and emerge with time. Students will keep a reflection journal throughout the year to keep track of their progress and thoughts about connecting to the community. Activities in the extended day program will intentionally focus on criteria for the badges to support students growth.

This program is replacing Middle School study hall. We will still have time for snacks, homework, and downtime to move and connect with friends on the greentop as well. Parenting adults can register their students for only MS Connect or in partnership with other specialty classes.
